May Campout in the Adirondacks!
This year’s May Campout is proving to be one of the cooler ones we’ve taken in a while. Camp Santanoni Preserve, in Newcomb, NY, is a beautiful 13,000 acre forest preserve and National Historic Landmark acquired by New York State in 1972. We will be driving the 2 ½ hours to Newcomb, then hiking or mountain biking 5 miles in to our site.
This is a backpacking style campout. Pack lightly, we will be hiking 5 miles each direction. If you plan on bringing your mountain bike, remember that YOU will be riding with your full backpack and you will go nowhere if you don’t have a helmet.
Scouts have to be 14 years old in order to bring a mountain bike. This is due to the difficulty of managing a pack on a bike (all of our 14 and over scouts have mountain biking experience and are large enough to not be as top heavy with the pack on)
Scouts need to bring two lunches, one dinner one breakfast and two quarts/Nalgene bottles of water. Backpack appropriate meals only. One dinner and one breakfast will be provided. Pack appropriate sleeping systems. We will be sleeping in backpack tents.
Equipment questions? Need a backpack? Meal questions? Call Mr. Strohmeyer at 841-3471.
